History of Poncha Lumber

Knotty Pine Lumber Co. came into existence in 1960; this business was known for providing the highest quality dimensional lumber and basic hardware in the area. Knotty Pine became Poncha Lumber in the early 70’s and continued to offer high quality lumber products to the community.

Through the years, it slowly grew to include such items as stock doors and windows. In 1999, Poncha Lumber was purchased by the Chelf Lumber Company. The Chelf brother's vision has been to expand Poncha Lumber from a “mom and pop” business into a full service building center.

A modern and much larger facility was built on Highway 50 in 2004, allowing Poncha Lumber to grow into the operation it is now. Poncha Lumber has expanded not only the capacity of the yard and sales floor, but the product lines as well. The expanded operation now includes departments which specialize in sales and service for lumber, interior design sales, and exterior design sales.

The hardware section of the store is literally a store within a store and the yard for the new facility is over 3 acres, allowing Poncha Lumber to carry more inventory and variety.
